I noticed last night that Amber hasn't been eating or drinking and has been really lethargic (her lethargy was even more pronounced this morning). After reading various sources on the internet about how bad it can get when cats stop eating, I took her to the vet. I found out that Amber probably had a combination of cancer and stones in the left kidney, and even if it were removed, the right kidney wouldn't be able to compensate because it's nonfunctional. So there's nothing that can be done at this point except to make her as comfortable as possible. At least she can stay at home with me until she's ready to go.
