I've tried various single malt whiskeys and it's definitely not my thing, especially the ones that taste like liquid confections of smoke, bog and peat. I'm more of a beer drinker, which makes me a perfect fit for Oregon's microbrew scene. My favourite beer is probably Rogue's Dead Guy Ale. It's hard to find Dead Guy on tap, however, so the best place to drink it and other Rogue beers (besides your own home) is the Rogue Public Ale House. It's where we went shortly after George and Caroline arrived in Portland.
